In 1976, the demand for housing shot up including high-end subdivisions like Banbury Estates. Next, Hewlett Packard arrived and the growth of Eagle Idaho real estate began. One major contributor was the addition of Eagle Hills Golf Course. The largest amount of growth and change in the Eagle area and Eagle real estate has happened since the 1970s. ![]() Eagle remained very much an agriculture-based community for decades. The land is considered very fertile with the yearly flooding of the land and high water table. Originally naming his island home after his native state, Catlin was soon persuaded to rename the island to reflect the large number of bald eagles that made the island their home as well.įarming further evolved with the development of irrigation canals. Catlin was one of those farsighted settlers who quickly realized that his real gold was to be found in farming and claimed 160 acres on Eagle Island. Many chose to seek their fortune mining, but a select few came to understand that the mining towns desperately needed the agricultural products that were fast becoming the mainstay of Boise and its river valley to the west, and they centered their efforts on those needs. History of EagleĮagle’s early history was set in motion when gold was discovered in the Boise Basin in 1862. This swath of land encompasses a variety of terrain including the North & South Channels of the Boise River, foothills, and farmland. It is located just over 8 miles northwest of Boise along Highway 44/State Street. Downtown Eagle is located between the Boise Foothills and the Boise River. Where is Eagle Located?Įagle encompasses the area from Highway 55 west to Highway 16, and from Chinden Blvd (Highway 20/26) into the foothills north of Beacon Light Rd. Here you find a hospital, retail stores, restaurants, banking, and corporate headquarters. Today there is a thriving business district along the Boise River at Eagle Rd & State Street. Not long ago, Eagle was a town that was centered around Old State Street and downtown Eagle, notably the Orville Jackson Store. Many have coined the term 'rurban' to describe the city due to its smaller downtown with sprawling neighborhoods close to farmland, and it also has a thriving business community. It is recognized for the many higher-end communities and the higher-than-average home values to prove it. Their numbers have improved greatly over the years in part due to continued efforts by the BLM and local conservation organizations.The City of Eagle grew from a small village with a population of 350 in 1970 to today’s bustling community of well over 30,000. However, every winter approximately 200 bald eagles migrate from North Idaho to Southern Idaho, often from Canada, to feed on spawning salmon. The number of bald eagles in Idaho varies from year to year. You can also visit one of Idaho's many nature preserves for some incredible bird-watching experiences.
